Power of a spoken word

Posted on

Words are a strong weapon for a person. They can inspire, but they can also discourage. They can hurt, but they can also heal. Words can bring life, like a fountain of water, but they can also bring a great deal of violence. It is important for us to realize that our words affect those around us in many different ways. When we speak, we should be mindful of what we are saying. Yes, there are times when harsher words are needed, but they should always be spoken out of love, not hate. Speaking out of love may sometimes be hard, but if we are diligent in seeking the words God would have us speak, the words we speak will always be good and encouraging.
Are your words encouraging, inspiring, building, nourishing or rejuvenating?
Proverbs 10:11 is worth pondering in view of the above.
